About this training

This course will assist Early Years Educators, Organisations and Individuals to comply with their legislative requirements and meet duty of care obligations regarding Child abuse. 

This is the FIRST level of our Essential Child Protection series.  This is an Induction course and should be completed prior to Levels 2-7.

Course duration: 2 hours

Pre-Requisites:  Nil

NEW REQUIREMENT - ONLY FOR CERTAIN PERSONS

The approved provider of an education and care service must ensure that nominated supervisors, persons in day-to-day charge and family day care coordinators have completed ONE of the below courses under Section 162A of the Education and Care Services National Law.

If you hold one of these positions and HAVE ALREADY DONE ONE of these courses, then you are able to do this course as your refresher training.

Learning Assessment: Multiple choice questions through the course.  No further study or assessment.

Certificate: Available for download at the time of successful completion of the online learning.

  • Definition of child abuse; 
  • Types of child abuse; 
  • Indicators of child abuse;
  • Early Intervention and Prevention tools;
  • Federal, State and Civil laws as pertained to child protection and civil liability;
  • Child Protection requirements under relevant National Frameworks; 
  • Reporting of child abuse; 
  • Managing disclosures;
  • Recording and documenting;
  • Understanding of relevant State Child Safe Standards.

Course Description: This course assists Early Years Educators, Organisations and Individuals to comply with their legislative requirements under the National Quality Framework and meet duty of care obligations regarding Child Protection. It is designed to be used for induction of new staff, and as a foundation or refresher course for those currently working in the Early Years Education and Care Sector. Upon successful completion, participants will be equipped with basic Child Protection skills sufficient to enable them to appreciate the importance of Child Protection, understand their legal obligations in relation to providing Child Protection, recognise indicators of child abuse, and notify concerns appropriately.
